Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
An Automated External Defibrillator, commonly known as an AED, is a portable medical device used to help save the life of a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating properly due to an abnormal electrical rhythm. In such situations, immediate medical attention is critical because the lack of blood circulation can quickly lead to brain damage or death within minutes. An AED is specifically designed to analyze the heart’s rhythm and deliver an electric shock, called defibrillation, to restore the heart’s normal rhythm. AEDs are widely used in public places such as airports, schools, shopping malls, offices, hospitals, hotels, stadiums, gyms, railway stations, and other crowded locations. They are also installed in ambulances, industrial facilities, and residential communities as part of emergency response and safety systems. Modern AEDs are designed to be simple and user-friendly so that even people without medical training can operate them during emergencies.
